25 May – 16 July

White Nights apartments on the Neva

The most beautiful weeks of the Petersburg year — in a historic apartment on Voskresenskaya Embankment, with direct views of the Neva, the Smolny Cathedral and the rooftops of the centre.

The season

The longest twilight in Europe

The White Nights in St Petersburg run officially from 25 May to 16 July. For 50 days the sky never fully darkens; in the «darkest» hours, around 1 a.m., you can read outdoors without a lamp.

It's a rare phenomenon you can only see in the far-northern Petersburg and in Scandinavia. The city doesn't sleep: the bridges open to music, boats pass one after another, and people stroll the embankments until morning.

Main events

What you'll see from the windows

  • Scarlet Sails — the city's biggest festival on the third weekend of June. Full guide.
  • Bridge openings nightly from 01:25 — the Palace, Liteyny and Bolsheokhtinsky bridges are all visible.
  • Night boat trips — from about 1,500 ₽ per person.
  • Concerts and festivals — «Stars of the White Nights» at the Mariinsky and open-air programmes.
