Scarlet Sails 2027 in St Petersburg: where to watch
The city's brightest show. Where to watch, what to bring, and why an apartment with a direct Neva view is the best choice for the night.

Scarlet Sails is St Petersburg's biggest show and the only school-leavers' celebration in the world staged for an entire city. On the third weekend of June the central embankments close for a day, the bridges are raised early, and on the lightest night of the year a tall ship with scarlet sails glides down the Neva between the Admiralty and Palace embankments — the symbol from Alexander Grin's novella.
The highlight is the pyrotechnic show around 01:30, synchronised with light and music. Into one frame fall the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Palace Bridge, the Winter Palace and the Spit of Vasilievsky Island.
Where to watch
The best riverside spots — the Admiralty and Palace embankments, the Spit — are exactly where over a million people gather: you stand in a dense crowd for 4–6 hours with no exit, and access closes three hours before the show. No toilets, cafés or shops inside the zone.
The alternative is the water — boat tours from about 8,000 ₽ per person, sold out a month or more ahead. The most comfortable option: an apartment with a direct Neva view. From upper floors on the right bank the whole show is visible — the ship on the water, the lit facades, the fireworks from the fortress.
Why Voskresenskaya Embankment
Number 30 stands on the right bank, between the Liteyny and Bolsheokhtinsky bridges — about two kilometres from the Palace Bridge in a straight line. The ship passes by toward the Winter Palace and the show opens right in the windows. Fewer people, fewer police cordons, and you can walk home from the Chernyshevskaya area — cars can't enter the centre that night.
The Panoramic apartment has tall floor-to-ceiling windows onto the Neva; the Historic apartment has high arched windows with the whole central panorama in view.
What to know about that night
- Book 2–3 months ahead — demand far outstrips supply, prices peak.
- The metro in the centre stops after 23:00. Plan your route or book a taxi in advance (fares run 3–5× higher that night).
- It can be cool — 12–17 °C with wind off the Neva. Bring a jacket.
- Cafés and shops in the festival zone are closed or limited.
